Foreword
Air pollution
affects all of us. However, the worst affected are the people from
low income group residing in industrial areas. This is because they
are exposed to poor ambient air quality due to industrial and vehicular
emissions as well as poor indoor air quality due to use of low grade
cooking fuel, dense clusters of houses and poor ventilation. Traffic
police, shopkeepers and outdoor workers are also exposed to air
pollution for longer duration.
This report is the outcome of a study commissioned by the Central
Pollution Control Board to determine the extent of personal exposure
to pollutants in seleGted group of people. The report also deals
with the health aspects and air quality modelling to correlate the
air quality and exposure to pollutants.
I express my
sincere thanks to Prof. (Mrs.) R.S. Patil & her team of IIT, Mumbai
for conducting the study. The valuable guidance from the members
