Foreword
Various types
of small boilers are used in industrial processes requiring steam
for heating, pressure or curing etc. Coal, fuel oils (LDO, FO),
rice husk, briquettes or wood are generally used as fuel. More often
than, the small boilers contribute a major source of air pollution
primarily due to improper operation and maintenance. The Central
Pollution Control Board carried out a study on "optimisation of
combustion efficiency and control of emission from small boilers
(less than 2 TPH) through National Productivity Council, New Delhi.
The findings of the study suggest that optimisation of combustion
efficiency through proper operation and maintenance helps in reduction
of the emissions as well as saving in fuel consumption. Based on
the findings of the study, the guidelines for the users and manufactures
of small boilers are suggested in the report.
The report is the out come of the team efforts consisting of the
National Productivity Council, New Delhi and my colleagues Shri
Lalit Kapur and Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Paliwal, under the guidance of
Dr. B. Sengupta, Member Secretary. Shri Mahendra Kumar Gupta, assisted
in typing the manuscript of the report.
