Foreword
For abatement of pollution in a concerted manner, one of the intiatives that has been taken in recent years relates to preparation of action plans for identified problem areas. It entails monitoring and assessment of pollution load, identification of their souces and actions required to be taken by concerned agencies.

Twenty two problem areas in different parts of the country have so far been identified and action plans prepared in respect of 14 such areas. The action plans are at various stages of implementation.

The details of the action plans have been complied and presented in this document along with the review of overall situation in these areas.

A team of my col!eagues from the Pollution Assessment Monitoring & Survey Division, Pollution Control Implementation Division and Zonal Offices has been involved in this exercise based on which this document has been prepared.

I hope this document will be useful to the concerned agencies including the Pollution Control Boards and planning authorities.
