The Central Board in 28th meeting discussed about the sudden poJlution caused by im- proper storage of mollasses in a Sugar Factory in Goa, Due to incessant rain the mollasses storage tanks which were unlined pit$ gave away. The stored mollasses like silt laden runoff ran through through drain to meet the river at a pointjust upstream of the water intake point of one of the largest and most important water works in Goa,

Under the able guidance of Dr. K. R .Ranganathan, Environmental Engineer of the Cen- , tral Board, the pollutional episode was brought under control. This report contains the deta)ls of the incident including associated and relevant facts.

The Central Board decided to keep record of such incidents happenlng in the country and intends to publiclse them as and when such reports are ready.
