Industrial Estate Planning

                                                Foreword
The Central Board for the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution has since quite some time been concerned with pollution caused by the Industrial Estates. The Board studied the problem closely in respect of a large Industrial Estate and the findings and recommendations are published under the title Union Territory of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Assessment and Development Study of River Basin Series: ADSORBS/ 1/1978- 79. The study revealed the basic necessity of providing collection system by the promotors of Industrial Estates. It was further considered necessary that a set of principles to be followed by the promotors while developing anEstate has to be drawn so a$ to avoid future mistakes and correct w hat has been already done. Involvement of the promotors, State Water Pollution Control Boards and Consultants working in the area was considered a must in evolving the principles. Accordingly a symposium in which thirteen working papers on the subject were pre- sented was held and the participants were drawn from the three categories mentioned above. A set of recommendations detailing the

principlesto be followed by the promotors of Estates and the industrial units .was adopted at the symposium. The present report comprises the working papers and the recommendations

It is my fervent hope that all the concerned authorities would implement the recommendations which will result in curbing pollution caused by the Estates. Grateful thanks are due to the authors of the papers and the participants. The financial assistance extended by WHO-SEARO, New Delhi is gratefully acknowledged.
