Foreword

State Pollution Control Board is gratefully acknowledged. also due
to the various industrial units in the Kamataka State for providing
the requisite information. of effluent treatment plarrts (ETP) installed
in about one hundred industrial units falling under various categories
The State of Kamataka are illustrated in this brochure. Water use
in relation to the products manufactured in the LStry, wastewater
generation, location of industry in relation to the major river
basins or coastal belt within the te, the flowsheet adopted by the
industries in the treatment of wastewaters, and the results obtained
are provided each of the industrial units included in this brochure.
It is expected that the publication would be able to provide guidance
to the various industries, the Pollution Control Boards and the.
personnel in-charge of management of water resources while taking
decisions on the type of .

treatment
to be provided for various categories of industries. The Karnataka
State Pollution Control Board collected and compiled the information
in the format furnished by the Central Board and also furnished coloured
photographs of various ETPs in the State, which helped the Central
Board in bringing out this publication. Shri v. Subramanian, Assistant
Environ- mental
Engineer of the Central Board, took up the task of rearranging the
materials for presentation in suitable form and redrawing the flowsheets
adopting pictorial representation of unit processes. Shri P. Ramayya
Naidu, Regional Co-ordinator & Adviser (South) of the Central Board,
coordinated with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and provided
requisite guidance during collection and compilation of information.
Dr. K .R. Ranganathan, Senior Environ- mental Engineer of the Central
Board, provided the requisite guidance to Shri V. Subramanian. Shri
K.K. Gupta, Shri Ramesh Singh Shahi and Mrs Bonya Basu prepared the
flowsheets and Shri Premankur Barua composed on the electronic typewriter.
