Characterstics and Treatment of of Wastewater from an Electric Bulb Manufacturing Unit : A Case Study

                                                Foreword
The nature of wastewater from any electric bulb manufacturjng unit is not so well known. Characterisation of such a wastewater revealed that using of cutting oil was the major contributing factor to pollutional load. Furthermore, the owner of the unit put up a physico-chemical treatment device not requiring any external source of energy. The performahce and design of the treatment plant were investigated and the present report narrates the efficiencies and deficiencies.

The performance study of the treatment plant was carried out by Shri v. Subramanian, Assistant Environmental Engineer as the principal investi- gcitor under the close guidance of Dr. R.H. Siddiqi, Consultant to the Board.

The other staff members associated with the monitoring work were the Assistant Environmental Engineers Shri D.C. Sharma & Shri D.P. Singh, Technical Assistants, Shri J.S. Yadav & Shri M. Chakraborty and Shri" . N.C. Durgapal, Apprentice Scientist.

Dr. K.R. Ranganathan, Member Secretary and Shri R.N. Sen, Environmental Ehgineer reviewed the draft .report and offered useful comments. The drawings .were prepared by Mrs. Bonya Basu and Shri R.S. Shahi. Shri Bidhi Chand and Kumari Gita Gandhi typed the draft report and Shri Premankur Barua composed the final report on the electronic typewriter.
