                                               Foreword

The Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India, has notified 'Emission Limits for new Diesel Engines (up to 800 KW) for Generator Sets (Gensets) Applications' at serial number 95 of Schedule I of Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, vide G.S.R. 371 (E), dated 17th May, 2002 and its amendments. This notification requires that the Compliance and Testing Procedures shall be prepared by the Central Pollution Control Board with the help of the certification agencies. This document fulfils this requirement of the notification.

This document lays down the applicability and requirements, certification system and test procedures, for compliance with the above mentioned regulations.

The document was prepared under the guidance of "Standing Committee on Emissions from Reciprocating Internal Combustion (RIC) Engines for Off-road Applications" constituted by Central Pollution Control Board.

I hope this document will help the certification agencies, manufacturers of diesel engines for genset applications and regulatory agencies in adopting a uniform procedure for testing and compliance of emission regulations for diesel engines for genset applications.
