Foreword

The Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India, has notified 'Noise Limits for new (manufactured on or after 1 sl January, 2005) Diesel Generator Sets (up to 1000 KV A) at serial number 94 (paras 1 & 3) of Schedule I of Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, vide G.S.R. 371(E), dated 1th May, 2002 and its amendments. This notification requires that the Compliance and Testing Procedures shall be prepared by the Central Pollution Control Board with the help of the certification agencies. This document fulfils this requirement of the notification.

This document lays down the applicability and requirements, certification system and test procedures, for compliance with the above mentioned regulations.

The document was prepared under the guidance of "National Committee on Noise Pollution Control" constituted by Central Pollution Control Board.

I hope this document will help the certification agencies, manufacturers of diesel gensets and regulatory agencies in adopting a uniform procedure for testing and compliance of noise regulations for diesel generator sets.
