| Monitoring
of environmental components is an important prerequisite for pollution control
activities. It is difficult to monitor water quality only by using physico-chemical
methods. To overcome this difficulty, environmental scientists, all over the world,
are exploring the possibility of using biomonitoring techniques in addition to
physico-chemical monitoring. Through biomonitoring the cumulative effect of all
the pollutants can be determined and the overall health of the aquatic ecosystems
could be properly assessed. In this issue of PARIVESH, various
aspects of biomonitoring are presented. The information for the issue has been
collected and collated by Dr. (Mrs.) Pratima Akolkar and Dr. R.C. Trivedi. |
