National Ambient Air Quality Statistics of India 1995

                                                Foreword

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in collaboration with State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) initiated the National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring (NAAQM) programme in 1984. Over the years, number of monitoring stations has increased to 290, covering 92 Cities / Towns in 28 States/ Union Territories. Monitoring is conducted by the respective State Pollution Control Boards and then the data are transmitted to the Central Board through Computer Network. The Central Board publishes the Air Quality Statistics and Status Reports after scruitinising and processing the data. .

The present report entails the status of air quality in various cities/ towns and Air Quality Statistics for the year 1995. In this report, air quality status is defined in terms of Low, Moderate, High and Critical based on the concentration of pollutants, and the notified standards. The air quality status as monitored in cities/towns is depicted in the Tables and Maps.
The cooperation of the State Pollution Control Boards in the air quality monitoring programme is gratefully acknowledged. We hope, this report will be useful to all concerned with air quality management in the country
