Foreword
Air (Prevention
and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, the Central Pollution Control
Board (CPCB) initiated National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring (NAAQM)
programme in the year 1984 and this programme was later renamed as
the National Air Monitoring Programme (NAMP), This report decribes
the findings of air quality monitoring in Delhi as a component of
the national programme, In addition to the pollutants monitored under
the national pr-ogramme, additional pollutants such as Lead, Carbon
Monoxide (CO), Benzo (a) Pyrene (B(a)P) and Ozone are monitored in
Delhi, Monitortng is also carried out regularly at Bahadurshah Zafar
Marg and at other major traffic intersections in Delhi.
This report is based on the air quality monitoring studies carried
out during the period 1989 to 2000 in Delhi, Status and trends of
air pollutants measured in Delhi as also strategies for air quality
monitoring are presented in this report I am thankful to my colleagues
