Air Quality Status of India - 1996 |
| Foreword
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in collaboration with the State Pollution
Control Boaros (SPCBs) has established a national ambient air quality monitoring
(NAAQM) network, comprising I 290 stations in 92 cities/towns, under the Air (Prevention
and control of Pollution) Act, 1981 to collect, compile and disseminate the air
quality status.
Presently, the ambient air quality is being monitored
by CPCB, SPCBs, Pollution Control Committees, some Universities and Institutes.
The data, thus generated, are transmitted to CPCB for compilation, scrutinization,
analysis and preparation of national ambient air quality report
The present
report containing ambient air quality data of the year 1996 is the 8th publication
in the series ofNAAQM to disseminate the air quality information and has been
entitled as'' Ambient Air Quality Status -India, 1996" |

Air pollution
status of various pollutants has been defined in terms of Low, Moderate, High
and Critical, vis-a-vis the notified ambient air standards and has been depicted
in the fortY. of tables and maps. This report will be of help to all those who
are concerned with the air quality management in the country .
