Foreword
As per its mandate,
One of the important functions of the Central Pollution Control Board
is collect, compile and publish technical and statistical data relating
to 'water pollution. For collection of data on water quality in rivers,
lakes and groundwater, a network of 480 monitoring stations has been
established over the years.
The monitoring is conducted by the respective State Boards. For transmission
of data from State Boards to the Central Board, computerised facilities
have been introduced in the Central Board and the State Boards.
The present report covering water quality date of 19 is the- fourth
in the series of Water Quality Statistics of India. The additional
features of this report are trend analysis and water quality status
vis-a-vis standards as presented in chapter 2.
We hope that this report will be useful to all those concerned with
water qulity management in the country. |
