Assessment of the
status of water quality of the natural water bodies is one of the most important
activities of the Pollution Control Boards. Water quality data not only help to
ascertain the nature and extent of the requirement for pollution control measures
but also the impact on water quality of any control measures taken. accordingly,
a water quality monitoring network of 450 stations has been systematically established
covering rivers, lakes and a few ground water station.Water quality data thus
generated has been treated statistically for meaningful inferences.
For
quick transfer of data between Central and State Pollution Control Boards, compatible
computer systems have been established. On persuation and training nine State
BOards have started sending the water and air quality data on floppies. To further
