Environmental Quality Monitoring of Haldi and Roopnarayan Rivers

                                               Foreword

The rivers are among the major freshwater resources in the country. Most of the rivers are seasonal, and even those which have water flowing throughout the year, have to meet the increasing pressure of diverse and competing needs. The major consumers include irrigation, drinking, and industrial activities

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has been monitoring the water quality of the major rivers of the country for identification of polluting sources and to restore the wholesomeness of rivers.

The water quality of the Haldi and Roopnarayan rivers has been monitored during 1999-2000, for assessment of pollution load and identification of the designated best uses in the different stretches of these rivers. The details

of the parameters monitored, the methodology followed, and the findings alongwith observations about the pollution level and recommendations have been compiled and brought out in this document.

We hope, the document will be useful in formulating measures for protection and the restor, ation of the water quality of these important rivers. t.
