Biodegradability Study for Industrail Effluent in Aerobic Environment by using BODSEED and Activated Sludge

                                           Foreword

The need for appropriate technologies for treatment or effluents can hardly be overemphasized. The quality and quantity of effluent play an important role in maintaining the stability of the surrounding environment. The biodegradation of organic compounds often fluctuates due to several factors involved in a process.

In order to estimate comparative efficiency of biodegradation of various industrial effluents, it is imperative to have a uniform seed material for better assessment. A special lyophilized mixed microbial culture called "BODSEED" has been jointly developed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi and the Centre for Biochemical Technology (CBT), CSIR, Delhi.

The present report contains the findings of the laboratory investigations to explore the possibilities of using BODSEED to treat and categorize various types of effluents. We hope, the information contained in this report will be useful to the regulatory bodies and professionals working in this field.
