SURVEY OF VEHICULAR POLLUTION CHECKING CENTRES IN DELHI

Teams from CPCB and the State Transport Department inspected 21 Vehicular Pollution Checking centres during May-June, 1999, to check their operation, maintenance and calibration of instruments. At some centres, operators were not fully conversant with the operation of the instruments. It was observed that at most places the analyzer instruments were exposed to dirt and heat leaving the sampling probe dirty and choked, thus affecting the performance of instruments. The calibration was not performed at many cases.

CPCB recommended that the staff of the vehicular pollution checking centres need proper training, gas calibration metres should be checked regularly, sampling probe should be regularly cleaned with petrol and compressed gas after each monitoring.
