STUDIES ON PORTS AND HARBOURS

Being the gateway of trade and commerce a huge quantity of materials are transported/transferred through ports and harbours and thus these zones form important sources of coastal pollution at fixed locations along the coast. Studies have been undertaken on the state of dock water and sediment quality, ship breaking activities including the import and transfer of hazardous substances in Calcutta, Haldia and Paradeep ports and a comprehensive report has been prepared with suggesting various control measures.
