MANAGEMENT PLAN : KANPUR URBAN AREA The need for sustainable development with the highest consideration to environmental factors deserves top-most priority in the development of urban areas. Bearing the objective in mind, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has taken up a model study, for the city of Kanpur during 1996-98, wherein, extensive survey and monitoring for assessment of the environmental components and the quality; status of existing management and implementation; housing and socio-economic pattern; land use pattern; utilization of natural resources; industrial scenario and development; road and transportation system etc. were taken into consideration, besides identification of environmental Hot Spots; for the preparation of a comprehensive environment management plan of the city. In order to create consciousness among the city-dwellers, a day long workshop was organized jointly with Kanpur Development Authority, Kanpuar. A wide spectrum of society including elected ward members of Municipal Corporation, academic institutions like IIT, HBTI; NGOs like Save Ganga, Eco-friends, I Love Kanpur; all concerned Government Departments including Nagar Nigam, Kanpur Development Authority, UP Jal Nigam, Industries, SPCB, NEERI, ICDP, Industrial Associations participated in the workshop. Important outcome the workshop are as follows : 1. Development of Recreational Area 2. Development of Green Belt 3. De-congestion of CBD 4. Development of MRTS |
