COASTAL ZONE MANAGEMENT PLAN OF WEST BENGAL

A declaration, that the coastal stretches of the country comes under the purview of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) was made effective by MoEF vide gazette notification of Coastal Zone Regulation dated February 19, 1991. The CPCB, is compiling both secondary and primary data collected on various aspects to throw further light on the coastal zone management plan (CZMP) of West Bengal. The CZMP is being brought out with a set of maps clearly demarcating the CRZ - I, II and III areas besides overlaying relevant information. This task for 1999-2000 is in joint co-operation with the West Bengal Coastal Zone Management Authority, which has been constituted by the Government of India. This is the first CZMP preparation for any State in which CPCB has been directly involved.
