AIR QUALITY AT TRAFFIC INTERSECTIONS OF DELHI

Air quality monitoring conducted at various traffic intersections for a period of 24 hrs through mobile van) in Delhi reveals that respirable suspended particulate matter are in high concentration at all the monitoring locations. The sulphur dioxide was recorded within limits at all the locations. Nitrogen dioxide was recorded well within the limits at various locations, except Connaught Place, Windsor Place and Pusa Road, where the values exceeded the 24 hrs. standard. The carbon monoxide has also been recorded higher than the prescribed permissible limit. Concentration of air pollutants was found to increase between 8.00 to 11.00 AM and 4.00 to 9.00 PM at monitored traffic intersections, indicating the impact of vehicular density on air quality.
