Workshop on Toxic Pollutants Monitoring
Two days workshop on `Toxic Pollutants Monitoring' was organized by Central
Pollution Control Board on 3rd - 4th November, 2003. The workshop focused on
monitoring and measurement of toxic pollutants especially air toxics such as
volatile organic compounds, semi-volatile organic compounds, fine particulate
(PM2.5) in ambient air using modern, internationally accepted monitoring techniques.
Training under Canada - India Institutional Strengthening Project
Four officials from Central Pollution Control Board have undertaken training under Canada - India Institutional Strengthening Project on `Sampling and Analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH's) in Ambient Air at Environmental Technology Centre (Environment Canada), Ottawa, Canada between 10th May to 11th June, 2003. The training programme included sampling and analysis of VOC's and PAH's in ambient air, quality assurance and quality control in ambient monitoring apart from visit to Air Quality Monitoring Stations at Canada.
Training Programme for Polytechnic Teachers
Four day training programme was organized for Polytechnic Teachers on Environmental Issues at the request of Govt of U.P. Teachers apart from being provided with theoretical knowledge on the subject. The trainees visited Sewage Treatment plant and Biomedical Wastes Management Facility at Kanpur.
Teachers' Training Programme
Under the training title 'Environment and Pollution Control' two training programmes, one at Patna in July and the other at Kolkata in August, were conducted for the teachers of high schools including Kendriya Vidyalayas. In total seventy-five teachers had participated in the programme. Topic-wise write-ups were circulated among the participants for reference to their future class teaching. Certificates were awarded to them after completion of the training.
Training Program in the Brick Kiln Sector
The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI) and the Central Pollution Control Board jointly organized a training programme at Agra during March 4-6, 2003 as part of 'India Brick Project' supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, New Delhi. The objective of the training programme was to improve awareness among the Pollution Control Board officials on brick kiln technologies (particularly on new technological developments) and initiate a dialogue on various technological, methodological and policy related issues regarding air pollution from brick industry.
The training programme included components such as classroom lecture; discussion
sessions; and field visits to various brick kiln adopting different technologies.
In total, 24 engineers and scientists from the central and various state pollution
control boards participated in the training programme.
Brain-storming Session on Cleaner Technology
A two day `Brain-storming Session on Cleaner Technology' was organized. The funds for this event were made available by MoEF. A total of 14 papers were presented during the session.
A Technology Assessment Verification Centre at Central Pollution Control Board has been sanctioned, in principle by the Ministry of Environment & Forests. The centre may take the shape of a Centre of Excellence which may identify the gaps in technology, latest state of the art technologies available for different manufacturing sectors, their technical parameters and limitations, financial implications, payback period of such technologies, details of success stories, technical expertise available. The Centre will also take the lead role in initiating demonstration projects in identified areas and creation of awareness among all concerned.
Training Programme on Toxic Pollutants
Training programme on 'Measurement of Toxic Pollutants, VOCs, HAP and POP' was organised at Vadodara in collaboration with Environment Canada. The participants are mainly drawn from CPCB and SPCBs.
Training Programme on Wet Deposition Chemistry
A training programme on Wet Deposition Chemistry was organised under Male Declaration Programme for participants from South Asian countries, such as Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Maldives, Srilanka during August 5-9, 2003. Iran also participated in the programme.
