Inventorisation and Management of Hazardous Waste in Medak District, Andhra Pradesh

                                                Foreword

Under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 Hazardous Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1989 have been notified. According to these rules, the State Governments are to identify the sites for c:tisposal of hazardous wastes and the State Pollution Control Boards are tn issue authorisation to the Generators/Facilities for collection, st.orage, treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes.

To provide technical assistance and information as needed for implementation of the rules, CPCB has taken up a programme for inventorization and for preparation of management strategies in respect of hazardous wastes in various States of the country. The present report relates to such a study conducted in Medak district, one of the highly industrialised djstricts jn Andhra Pradesh. The report brings out

quantification of hazardous wastes- suitabJe for incineration/disposal on land, existing hazardous waste management practices, jdentification of sites for disposal of hazardous waste etc. in different industrial areas of the district..
