Identification of Hazardous Waste Generating Industry in Southern States (Andhra Pradesh , Kerala, Karnataka & Tamil Nadu)

                                               Foreword

The Hazardous Waste (Management & Handling) Rules were notified in 1989 under the Environment (Protection) Act 1986. These rules aim at providing control for the generation, collection, treatment, transport, import, storage and disposal of hazardous wastes. The primary objective of these regulations is to establish a control mechanism for the management of hazardous wastes. Under rules, State r~gulatory agencies are required to identify Jle u!1its generating hazardous wastes and also issue the authorization for collection, treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes.

The present report, is the outcome of an exercise undetaken by the Central Pollution Control t3oard (CPCB) for inventorization of the hazardous waste generating units (large/medium) in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu
I would like to place on record our sincere appreciation for the co-operation provided by the concerned State Pollution Control Boards in eliciting relevant information for this document.
