Status of Hazardous Waste Generation Treatment and Disposal in
Himachal Pradesh

                                               Foreword

Under the Environment(Protection) Act, 1986 Hazardous Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1989 have been notified. ~ccordingto these rules, the State Govemment.s are to identify the sites for disposal of hazardous wastes and the State Pollution Control Boards are to is..~ue authorisation to the Generators/Facilities for collection, storage, treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes.

As a pre.;requisite for implementation of the rules, the Central Pollution Control Board has taken up inventorisation of hazardous waste generating industries in various states of the country .The present report relates to such study in a selected industries in the State of Himachal Pradesh. Based on the study, the hazardous waste management strategy to be adopted by the industry and the State Pollution Control Board are outlined in the report.
