Foreword
Industrial operations
involved in the manufacture and storage of hazardous chemicals entail
inherent risk potential to human safety, health, property and surrounding
environs. Hence, it is imperative that the risk should be scientifically
analysed so that mitigation measures could be implemented and emergency
response plans pre~ared.
Though legislation
exists in the country for the management of hazardous substances
as also for environmental appraisal of industrial projects, requisite
guidelines for risk analysis are not yet available, particularly
in regard to consequence modelling for calculation of safe distances
and acceptable risk criteria for cut-off activities. The Environmental
