| Foreword
The Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India has promulgated Hazardous
Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1989 under the Environment (Protection)
Act. 1986. According to these rules, the State regulatory authorities are required
to issue authorization to the generator/facility for the collection, reception,
treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous wastes. The State Governments are
also required to identify disposal sites and to conduct environmental impact assessment
for disposal of hazardous wastes in such sites.
To provide technical assistance
and information as needed for implementation of the Jules, the Central Pollution
Control Board (CPCB) through State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) bas taken up
a programme for inventorization of hazardous wastes in various States of the country
.The present report entails the fmdings on identification of hazardous waste |

generating units,
classification and quantification of hazardous waste suitable for recyclable,
incinerable and disposable, status of authorisation and disposal site identification
in the State of Andhra Pradesh.
The
project work was co-ordinated by my colleague Dr. Inamul Haq and at State level
by Shri Raghavendra Rao and Shri A. Ramachand. The efforts made by them in evaluation
and preparation of this report is greatefully acknowledged. Shri N.K. Verma and
Dr. S.P . Chakrabarti advised in finalising this document. Relevant information
was provided by the Regional Officers of the APPCB, and assistance was provided
by Shri S.S. Pal for compiling the data.
