Groundwater Quality in Kanpur, Status Sources and Control Measures

                                              Foreword

Kanpur has been one of the highly industrial urban centres of India. Along with unbridled unbanisation coupled with intense industrial activities, the city plays host to innumerable environment related problems. These include urban solid waste, industrial effluents and emissions besides hazardous solid waste dumbing from the industrial sectors which ultimately lead to ground water contamination.

This report is based on a year long survey conducted by my colleages in Zonal Office at Kanpur to ascertain ground water contamination from the industrial activities.
The Central Pollution Control Board has been bringing out a series of publications on ground water quality in different parts of the country and the current report is the eighth of its kind. We hope, the report will be useful in preventing ground water contamination from different sources.
