| Proceedings
of the Workshop on Environmental Impact Assessment Studies for Developmental
Projects |
| Foreword
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an important decision making tool in
respect of various developmental projects. Notwithstanding long years of experience,
the methodologies for objective assessment of environmental implications for different
categories of projects are not yet accessible to the project proponent and regulatory
bodies. In order to provide a forum for exchange of expert inputs in methodologies
for EIA evaluation and prediction, a Workshop was organised during 4th and 5th
April 2002.
The primary objective of the Workshop was to provide guidance
on EIA process, correct methods of baseline data generation and impact prediction
techniques. The faculty for this Workshop comprises renowned EIA experts of the
country, who deliberated on all the multidisciplinary aspects of EIA process.

| I would like
to place on record our sincere appreciation for the efforts made by Environment
Monitoring Training & Research Centre (EMTRC), Delhi for organising this Workshop
and compilation of topics contained in this document. I hope, the deliberations
are useful in formulating the methodologies for EIA evaluation and prediction,
which could help in producing the much-needed EIA guidelines. |
