Foreword
Evolving an appropriate plan of action for the prevention and control of industrial water pollution and initiation of a systematic programme in implementation of po;lution control measure:. by the industries necessitate the regulatory agency to prepare an inventory of industries relevant to water pollution control, arrange them in order of their significance in contribution of pollution and categorize them based on processes, raw materials and products. Such inventory has been prepared for the Union Territory of Delhi entitled, 'Industrial Survey Union Territory of Delhi' Control of Urban Polll;:ion Series : CUPS/3/1978- 79' and also for Chandigarh entitled Union Territory of Chandigarh (Preliminary Report) - Control of Urban Pollution Series: CUPS/8/1981-82.

The present publication details the procedure followed in conducting a similar industrial inventory survey in the Union Territory of Pondicherry and is deemed to go a long way in implementing pollution control measures by the industries.

This investigation was conducted ai"ld a preliminary report prepared by Shri H.K. Karforma, Assistant Environmental Engineer. The report was reviewed and enlarged by Shri V. Subramanian, Assistant Environmental Engineer under close supervision of Dr. G.D. Agrawal, Member Secretary. Dr. S.P Chakrabarti, Environmental Engineer carefully scrutinized and edited the report.
