Status of Water Supply and Wastewater Collection, Treatment & Disposal in Class -I Cities - Status & Action Plan

                                                Foreword
Noise has been identified as a pollutant under Air (Prevention and Control) Act 1981. Noise is a hazard to health. It is time that pollution caused by noise is addressed with the seriousness it merits and methods and measure for ascertaining and controlling noise in various situations are evolved and enforced.

A survey of noise levels' in eight metropolitan cities of the country was undertaken during the year 1989-90. The report of this survey is brought in eight parts. The present document pertains to the metropolitan city of Kanpur.

Valuable help provided during the survey by the State Pollution Control Boards is gratefully acknowledged.

I believe this report would be useful to the concerned authorities dealing with noise pollution control and to all those interested in improvement and environmental quality
