Noise has been identified as a pollutant under Air (Prevention and Control) Act 1:981. Noise is a hazard to health. It is time that pollution caused by nOise is addressed with the seriousness it merits and methods and measure for ascertaining and controlling noise in various situations are evolved and enforced.

A survey of noise levels in eight metropolitan cities of the country was undert,aken during the year 1989-90. The report of this survey is brought jn eight parts.
