A survey of vehicular pollution in the 12 metropolitan citie s of the country was undertake enduring the year 1988 - 89. The survey was conducted through interact ion with Automobile Association, petroleum marketing organisat ions and through sample surveys among vehicle owners to det.ermine average distance covered by d fferent c1asses of vehiles . Information was also collect.ed from agencies owning of large fleet of trucks and buses. Methodology adopted in arriving at. the vehicular pollutional Board was discussed with the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun and is confirmed to be an accepted one. Appropriate emission factors developed by World Health Organisation are used in this report.

This report is brought out. 1n 13 part.s. Th1s document. Part VII, is a report of f.he assessment of veh1cular pollution in the metropolitan city of Pune. Part. I is a summary report: of the situation in all the 12

metropolitan cities while Part II to XIII deal with individual metropolitan cit.ies in detail.
