Foreword
This is the second of the three publications of the series on water pollution in and around Union Territory of Delhi conducted by the Central Board for the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution. The first and third publications of this series entitled "Union Territory of Delhi (Abridged)-Control of Urban Pollution Series: CUPS/1/1978-79" and "Industrial Survey Union Territory of Delhi- Control of Urban Pollution Series: CUPS/3/1978-79" are printed and available.

This report detail's' both the industrial and domestic sewage pollutional problems associated with this Territory and the impact of that pollution on the river Yamuna covering the stretch of the river both downstream and upstream. This report frames the backbone on which the strategy for pollution control forthe Territory is developed and followed. Although the information was collected for the industries during the period between 1977 and 1978, the water quality status of the river Yamuna is depicted covering the period from 1976 through 1979. It took quite some time for the Central Board's Secretariat to bring out report in the printed form as because much of the informa- tion were required to be scrutinised carefully.

The present treatise was initially compiled by Dr. D.S. Bhargava, Environmental Engineer, and ., coordinated the processing of the repo.rt under the guidance of the undersigned till he was with the Central Board. When he left it became difficult to complete the processing of the report until Dr. G.D. Agrawal who helped the Central Board during 1977 and 1978 as the Programme Adviser for this study completed the final processing of the Report as Consultant to the Central Board.

The Central Board's Secretariat through the assistance of Sri S. Gupta, Environmental Engineer, Dr. M. Sengupta, Senior Scientific Assistant, Sri N.K. Verma, Assistant Engineer, and Dr. S.P. Chakrabarti, Environmental Engineer edited the report thoroughly before sending for printing. Sri K.V. Swaminathan and Sri Bidhi Chand typed the initial manuscript. Final type of the manuscriptwas done by Smt. Sati Satia. Km. Bonya Ghosh drafted all the figures and drawings.
