Industrialisation
is one of the major solutions for raising the level of economy and providing employment
opportunities. However. The unplanned industrial concentrations in Cities are
creating high risk to environment. It may be realised that the economic considerate,ions
maximise profits cover a short time about the ecological considerations minimise
the liabilities over a long time.
Industrialisation in Pondicherry has
been taking place at a rapid rate. Such a rapid industrialisation. with the location
of industries in an unplanned and haphazard. Manner, has a potential of causing
considerable damage to the environment thereby affecting the quality of life in
the already limited area of this Union Territory.
The
present study has been carried out to identify follow and derelic lands in various
communes of the Pondicherry Region for locating the future industries |

and
to make clustering
of industries keeping in view of physical constraints of the Region, the Characteristics
of the industries and the land use compatibilities
This
report is a preliminarY attempt towards planning for industrial development keeping
