Status of Air Quality in Agra Region

                                             Foreword
To protect the treasured monument -Taj Mahal -from the possible effects of chemicals in air, the Government of India constituted a High Power Committee to oversee the implementation of the necessary air pollution control measures in Agra mathura Region and an Expert Group to assist the Committee with its scientific and technical findings. On the recommendations of the Expert Group, air quality monitoring at Taj Mahal was started in January, 1981 and subsequently at four locations in Agra since late 1984.

This report presents the analysis of the results of air quality monitoring in the region with sj?ecial reference to Taj Mahal. The report shows that the months November through March are critical as regards gaseous pollutants.
The efforts made by National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI)in monitoring the air quality at Taj Mahal and Ut tar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB)at other four locations are gratefully acknowledged.

Shri N. Bagchi, Dr. B. Sengupta, Shri Chander Prakash and Dr. S.K. Ghosh coordinated with NEERI and UPPCB in establishing the monitoring stations and collection of data. The analysis and interpretation of the data is done by Smt. Usha Ghosh with the assistance of Shri A.K. Sinha and Shri Anil Kumar Paliwal. The rose diagrams are drawn by Shri Ramesh Sahi.
