Coastal Water Quality Statistics (1987-1992)

                                                Foreword
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) qlong with the Department of Ocean Development launched a comprehensive coastal water quality monitoring programme in 1987 with a network of 173 stations sp~ead all along the country's coastline. The programme was completed in Ma!"ch, 1992. The monitoring work was conducted by the Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Boards in their respective coastal waters, while the West Bengal and Orissa coastal waters were monitored by the Eastern Zonal Office of the Central Pollution Control Board, Calcutta. The current report gives the coastal water quality statistics for 107 stations which were coordinated by the Central Pollution Control Board for the monitoring period 1987 through 1992.

is gratefully acknowledged. The report has been brought out through the team work of my colleagues in Pollution Assessment- Monitoring and Survey Division, Computer Cell and the Eastern Zonal Office. We hope, this report will provide useful base-line information to all those concerned with coastal water quality management in the country . .
