Foreword
Andaman
and Nicobar islands are the rich reservoirs of bio-diversity. These
islands are the tourist destinations for the' green hungry' mainlanders
and international tourists. Burgeoning population (including that
of the tourists), bleaching of the corals and forest degradation
have consequent impacts on the naturalness and the environmental
quality of these islands.
A team from our Zonal Office, Calcutta was deputed to provide a
first hand report of the environmental quality of these islands.
The co-operation extended by the agencies is gratefully acknowledged.
We hope the observations in this report will prove useful information
to the policy planners, and public at large. .
