Comprehensive Industry Document Oil Refineries

                                                Foreword
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had undertaken the task of bringing out the series of a Comprehensive Industry Document to provide necessary information on the status of each specific type of industry in the country. The documentation is designed to be in respect of number of units, their locations, capacities, types of product, usage of raw materials, process adopted, pollution prevention and control measures. It also includes the Minimal National Standards which could be achieved by the industry techno-economically and other relevant information needed for the prevention of environmental pollution. The present volume, called 'The Comprehensive Industry Document on Glass Industry, is one from the series that is being published by the CPCB under the Comprehensive Industry Document Series (COINDS). The main objective of this document, apart from giving an overall view of this type of industry, is to develop the Minimal National Standards (MINAS) which cannot be relaxed by any State Regulatory Agencies

because the same is techno-economically acceptable to the industry. The State Boards have agreed not to relax these standards but can make them stringent depending on the location and quality of recipient environment.

The study was conducted, on behalf of the CPCB on a contractual basis, by the National Productivity Council (N PC). The help and assistance extended by the State Pollution Control Boards and the AII-India Glass Manufacturers Association during the study are gratefully acknowledged. Dr. B. Sengupta, Senior Scientist & Shri Kireet Kumar of the CPCB coordinated the activities to develop t!le standards. Further, Dr. B. Sengupta, Senior Scientist, Shri R.C. Kataria, Asstt. Env. Engr., have put in a lot of efforts in preparing this volume which has been edited by Dr. K.R. Ranganathan, Member-Secretary, CPCB.

The document, I hope. would be useful to the industry, regulatory agencies. the consultants and others interested in pollution control.
