Foreword
According to the mandate assigned, the Central
Pollution Control Board is to collect, collate and disseminate information
relating to measures for prevention and control of pollution. In
pursuance of this mandate, an important activity of the Board has
been the preparation of a series of industry specific documents.
These documents are to provide information on the status of various
categories of industries in the country in respect of number of
units, their locations, capacities, manufacturing process, wastewater
generation and characterstics, and unit processes for treatment
and control of discharge and emissions of pollutants. The effluent
and emission standards also form part of these documents. Best
practicable technologies currently available anQ its economic viability
are the basis on which the standards are evolved. Economic viability
has been assessed based on cost
