The Central Board for the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution has prepared and published several comprehensive documents on specific industries to provide necessary technical information on manufacturing processes adopted, measures to reduce generation of pollutants and methods to control pollut.ion. Emission and Effluent Standards are evolved based on the above and on environmental considerat.ions.

The present document on Aluminium Industry is one in the Comprehensive Industry Documents Series (COINDS). Emission Standards for Aluminium Industry, particularly fluoride emission standard from pot-room, have been a subject of debate in the recent past. Emission standards for fluoride have been formulated in consultation with Aluminium Association of India and representatives of aluminium industries, taking into consideration the anode configuration. and technologically feasible collection efficiency at hoods and removal efficiency of control devices.
