The main Objedive
of t~is document, apart from giving an overall view of this type
of industry, is to develop the Minimal National Standards (MINAS)
which cannot be relaxed by any State Regulatory Agencies because
the same is techno-economically acceptable tothe industry. The State
Boards have agreed not to relax these standards but can make them
stringent depending on the locatio'1 and quality of recipient environment.
The study was
conducted, on behalf of the CPCB on a contractual basis, by the
National Metallurgical laboratory and C.S.I.R. lab. The help and
assistance extended by the State Pollution Control Boards and the
AI'-India lime Manufadurers Association during the study are grateful,y
acknowledged. Dr. B. Sengupta, Senior Scientist & Shri Kireet Kumar
of the CPCB coordinated the activities to develop the standards.
Further, Dr. B. Sengupta, Shri lalit Kapoor & Dr. Sanjeev Paliwal
have put in a lot of efforts in preparing this volume which has
been edited by Dr. K. R. Ranganathan, Member-Secretary, CPCB. The
document, I hope, would be useful to the industry, regulatory agencies,
the consultants and others interested in pollution control.
