3.1       MEETINGS OF THE BOARD

During the reporting period (April 1, 2002 to March 31, 2003), four meetings of the Central Board were held. The details of the meetings are presented in Table 3.1.

3.2       MAJOR DECISIONS TAKEN BY THE BOARD

• Laboratories were recognized under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. The name and address of recognized laboratories has been presented in Annexure IV.
• Annual Action Plan for 2002-2003, Annual Report 2001-2002, Annual Statement of Audit for 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 were approved.
• Implementation of projects on Eco-cities (Scheme under the X Plan).
• Emission standards for hazardous waste incineration.
• Enforcement of coke oven standard in integrated iron and steel plants.
• Policy to control pollution from asbestos industry.
• Construction  of training facility at CPCB under the World Bank funded EMCBTA project subcomponent - Zoning Atlas.
• Construction of new office-cum-laboratory building for Eastern Zonal Office of CPCB, Kolkata and Western Zonal Office at Vadodara.
• Approved the constitution of Research Advisory Committee of CPCB.
• Collaboration with the Environment Canada under the Canada-India Institutional Strengthening Project.
