ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH

7.2 Development, Standardization and Preparation of AQC Samples for Total Coliforms and Faecal Coliforms Parameters for Conducting AQC Exercises

CPCB is conducting AQC exercises since 1991 covering 20 physico-chemical parameters.  So far 7 full rounds of exercises in 15 slots were conducted.  In this endeavour, bacterioligical parameters like Total Coliforms and Faecal Coliforms are not yet started, which are very much essential from water quality assessment point of view.  The constraints in preparation of bacterial AQC samples are preservation and despatch of samples in ice cold condition.  To overcome these problems it was  decided to prepare lyophilized bacterial samples in solid form similar to the one developed for BOD SEED in collaboration with Centre for Biochemical Technology(CBT), CSIR, Delhi.

he main objectives of the research project are :

  • To introduce the bacteriological parameters like Total Coliforms and Faecal Coliforms in AQC scheme.

  • To improve the analytical efficiency of concerned laboratories with reference to bacteriological parameters.

  • To generate accurate and reliable analytical data of total coliforms and Faecal coliforms

Bacterial samples developed by CBT were tested in CPCB laboratory . Further studies in this  project is in progress.
