                                                Foreword
The Central Board for the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution was constituted in September, 1974. An intensive programme on generation, collection and compilation of scientific and technical data through field investigations on various aspects of water pollution and its prevention and control has been initiated since September, 1976. With a view to disseminate the information, the Central Board has also undertaken the task of publication under the following presently conceived series titles:

Programme Objective Series (PROBES)
Control of Urban Pollution Series (CUPS)
Assessment and Development Study of River Basin Series (ADSORBS)
Comprehensive Industry Document Series (COINDS)
Coastal Pollution Contol Series (COPOCS)


The present publication in the ADSORBS deals with the Zuari and Mandovi river basins in the Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu.

The various human activities in the river basins, water quality objective of the rivers and the present status of water quality and actions taken on pollution control in the basins are discussed in the report. Data presented are called from the reports prepared for the Central Board by the Town and Country Planning Department, Government of Goa and the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa.
