Mass bathing in water bodies is an age old ritual in India. The water bodies t are used not only for holy dip, but also for holy sip (Aachaman) .On certain I occasions, millions of pilgrims gather near the water bodies for religious offerings and for ritual ceremonies.

Bathing is one of the important in-situ use of water bodies, which demands the quality of water next to the drinking water quality. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) conducted a series of studies to study the environmental impact of I mass bathing. The present report deals with a study on the impact of mass bathing
