Foreword
Sabarmati is a relatively small river in terms of catchment area, channel length and flow among the fourteen major river systems of our country .It discharges directly into the Gulf of Cambay.

The report on the Sabarmati river basin is seventh in the series of Basin/Sub-basin studies taken up by the Central Board in collaboration with the State Boards and other agencies. The basic methodology adopted in the preparation of the report is the same as for other basin studies.

Gujarat Pollution Control Board collected the basic data. Information and statistics on hydrology, physiography, soils, land use, water abstraction, human settlments, generations of' ; waste-waters and of pollutants were obtained from Central Water Commission, Indian Meteoro- logical Department, Govt. of Gujarat; Census CommissIoner, Statistics
