Foreword
The Central Board
for the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution (CBPCWP) was constituted
in September, 1974. An intensive programme on generation, collection
and compilation of scientific and technical data through field investigations
on various aspects of water pollution and its prevention and control
has been initiated since September, 1976. With a view to disseminate
information, the Central Board has also undertaken the task of publication
under the following presently conceived series titles :
Programme Objective Series (PROBES)
Control of Urban Pollution Series (CUPS)
Assessment and Development Study of River Basin Series (ADSORBS)
Comprehensive fndustry Document Series (COINDS)
|
|
The
present publication is the first in the ADSORBS series and is to be
followed by reports on similar river basin studies. It is believed
that the report would be found useful by those involved in the work
of restoring and preserving the quality of natural water bodies.
The report enunciates the problems of water pollution associated with
Industrial Estates, quantifies the impact of these Estates on water
quality of the two rivers flowing nearby and proposes a master plan
for prevention and control of water pollution in a phased manner for
the entire basin of the two rivers. This report merits publication
beause its contents reflect the situation in most of the Industrial
Estates in India. For this reason, development of Plan- ning Guides
for fndustrial Estates is receiving the attention of the Central Board.
This investigation would not have been possible without the active
cooperation of the Gujarat Industrial Development Cooperation, the
Gujarat State Board for the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution
and the Govern- ment of Goa, Daman and Diu.
Dr. R. Pitchai, Professor, Guindy College of Engineering, Madras,
helped this investigation as Programme Adviser. Dr. K.R. Ranganathan
of Central Board coordinated the investigation.
Shri K. V. Swaminathan, Miss Kanchan Bala, and Shri Bidhi Chand of
Central Board shared the typing load among them. |
